Oracy

Oracy

Oracy is defined as the ability to express oneself fluently and grammatically in speech. Oracy is to speaking and listening what Numeracy is to mathematics and Literacy is to reading and writing. Using the term oracy is intended to highlight its crucial importance in the learning process and the wider curriculum.

At The Cavendish School, we aim to produce confident and articulate girls who are able to explain themselves clearly, think critically, respond appropriately, question carefully and use discussion and debate effectively to deepen and broaden their knowledge.

By explicitly teaching oracy skills throughout the curriculum from Nursery to Y6, as well as providing a range of purposeful extra-curricular opportunities, we aim to imbue our girls with the ability to use their voice confidently in secondary school the world of work and beyond.
