The Importance of Movement
Sport and physical education are an important part of life at The Cavendish School, helping girls develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. Through a broad and inclusive sports programme, every pupil is encouraged to participate, challenge herself and experience the benefits of being active in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Wide Range of Sport on Offer

Girls take part in a wide range of sports throughout the year, including netball, football, cricket and rounders, alongside regular PE lessons led by specialist teachers. Seasonal sports are integrated into the curriculum, with netball and football forming a key focus during the Autumn and Spring Terms, and cricket and rounders during the Summer Term.

The Cavendish School Commitment to Sporting Opportunities

We are committed to giving all pupils opportunities to represent the school in sport wherever possible, helping girls build confidence, teamwork and school spirit through participation and competition. Alongside this inclusive approach, more competitive squads,  including swimming and gymnastics, offer additional opportunities for pupils who wish to train and compete at a higher level.

Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a particular strength of the school, with girls developing impressive skills through specialist coaching and performance opportunities. Our Year 5 and 6 gymnastics squad recently won the 2026 local schools’ trophy, reflecting the enthusiasm and dedication of the pupils involved. Girls also participate in gymnastics and dance showcases throughout the year, celebrating both creativity and athletic achievement.

Swimming

Swimming lessons form part of the curriculum for pupils in Years 2 to 4, helping girls build water confidence and develop important life skills. In addition, pupils may join the school swimming squad as part of the wider co-curricular programme.

Dancing

Dance also plays an important role in school life. Specialist ballet teachers visit weekly to teach girls from Nursery through to Year 6, supporting pupils of all abilities and encouraging confidence, discipline and self-expression through movement.

Extended Sporting Opportunities for Upper Years

Older pupils benefit from further opportunities to extend their sporting experiences, including the option for Year 5 and Year 6 girls to attend a netball residential. Our exceptional central London location also enhances the sports programme; Lord’s Cricket Ground is just a short walk from the school, and pupils begin each cricket season with specialist coaching sessions at this iconic venue.

Through sport, dance and physical education, The Cavendish School encourages girls to become confident, resilient and enthusiastic participants who enjoy challenge, collaboration and personal achievement both on and off the field.
